Georgia cop, Lt. Richard Penson, is looking for a new job and fighting for his freedom after being involved with a hit-and-run involving a three-year-old. The 27-year-veteran of the department and K-9 handler struck a child outside of Kids’ Stop Learning Center at 1700 Dean Avenue Dec. 17 and did not basic human compassion to make sure the little girl was ok. In fact, he acted like nothing happened and denied striking the child.

According to the Rome Police Department (RPD), the incident occurred around 5:15pm. The Georgia cop was picking up his child at the same time as the mother of the victim. As he drove through the lot, he apparently struck the three-year-old which he quickly denied.

The mother screamed at Penson, “You hit my child!”

Upon hearing the accusations lobbied at him, Penson rolled down the windows in the vehicle when the mother ran into the day care to report the incident. Investigators were told that Penson didn’t believe he hit the child as he drove between cars in the parking lot and waited “a couple of minutes” before leaving.

The toddler was taken to the local health care facility and treated for her foot.

Penson is charged with reckless driving, hit-and-run (both misdemeanors) and second-degree cruelty to children (a felony). Penson surrendered at the Floyd County Jail on Friday.

As a 20-plus-year veteran of the force, shouldn’t this Georgia cop know better than to leave the scene? Why is there no indication of a probe into whether he was under the influence at the time of the incident? Yes Penson is charged with a crime but society has learned by now that being charged with a crime and actually being held accountable for that crime is two very different phenomenons when it comes to police.

What do you think should happen to this dirtbag father/cop?
