Breaking news, breaking news! Dallas cop Amber Guyger has been fired from the Dallas Police Department (DPD). It has been several weeks but it appears that justice may finally be served to the family of Botham Shem Jean. He was killed by Amber Guyger after she claimed she went to the wrong apartment and thinking he was a burglar, shot and killed him in his home.
This should come as no surprise considering the number of times Guyger, and law enforcement, changed the narrative of how the shooting went down. The first excuse given was that Guyger used her key but the door wouldn’t unlock. Than she offered that the door was already unlocked. Guyger pushed her way into the dark apartment. When she noticed Jean’s silhouette across the room, she yelled out several commands before firing her gun twice. That claim was quickly disproved by residents of South Side Flats posting videos to Facebook and other social media platforms showing the doors automatically close. Authorities changed their story yet again to claim that the door was “slightly ajar”. Again, the videos by residents debunked that narrative showing the heavy doors close and lock automatically despite how open the door is left open.
In addition to that, news reports indicated that authorities were downloading the electronic locking data on her apartment door. Had the data pulled from the lock corroborated her claim, she stood the chance of having an open and shut case. The data from the lock however did not support her claim. Authorities than canvassed the area for surveillance footage to track Guyger’s movements. All the evidence obtained pointed to the fabrication of events by the Dallas cop.
According to CNN, Guyger was fired during a hearing Monday. An internal affairs investigation concluded that Guyger “engaged in adverse conduct when she was arrested” for manslaughter, according to a statement released on DPD’s verified Twitter account. Guyger has the right to appeal her discipline according to the statement but it’s hard to imagine her getting her job back after this fiasco.
With the recent turn of events, expect Guyger’s manslaughter charge to be upgraded to murder.
