Waco, TX – A Waco cop is back behind bars after previously being arrested in connection to an undercover prostitution sting. Officer Willy Rafael Lopez, 35, was on administrative leave following his initial arrest when his comrades came back for him again. He was arrested by McLennan County Sheriff’s Office detectives on a state jail felony charge of invasive video recording.
The Waco Tribune is reporting that the new charge comes more than three weeks after the Waco cop was arrested on a Class B misdemeanor charge of prostitution. According to the arrest affidavit, Lopez agreed to meet with an undercover cop for sex in exchange for money.
He was initially arrested back in January in the parking lot of a restaurant near the Baylor University campus. According to KWTX, he was off duty at the time. Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said, “It is our understanding that the officer was arrested by an outside agency. It is not our case so we cannot comment on its specifics. By policy, the City of Waco does not comment on personnel matters.”
Lopez posted $1000 bond and was released.
Police Chief Ryan Holt of the Waco Police Department (WPD) said Lopez was placed on administrative leave the day following his arrest. Detectives obtained a warrant for his phone and his residence while conducting their investigation. The search turned up a video on Lopez’ cell phone of him “having relations” with a known prostitute in a bedroom in his apartment.
The new charge on the arrest affidavit stems from the woman telling detectives that she was unaware of Lopez’ recording. She admitted that Lopez did pay her to have sex with him.
Lopez, who is still enjoying his “vacation” was booked back into McLennan County Jail Thursday afternoon. Bond information was not readily available.
Lopez will remain on Administrative Leave pending Waco PD’s internal investigation reported CenTex Proud.
