A judge has handed a Louisiana sheriff’s deputy a lengthy prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple charges of child pornography. 29-year-old Todd Tripp of Gonzales, La. accepted his sentence as part of the guilty plea he entered in October. State District Judge Jessie LeBlanc also gave the deputy several post-prison conditions that had to be met including five years of probation.

The stipulations mandated by the district judge include:

  • Mental health evaluation and recommended treatment
  • Sex offender evaluation and treatment
  • No contact with victims
  • No internet or social media usage
  • No unsupervised contact with children
  • Forfeiture of all electronic devices in possession of APSO
  • Must register and notify as sex offender or child predator for 25 years

Apparently Tripp has a problem and can’t keep his hands and thoughts off minors.

The sheriff’s deputy has been arrested multiple times over his dealings with minors. Tripp has been arrested four times since 2013 on counts that have included child pornography, indecent exposure and carnal knowledge of a juvenile. In each of his first three arrests, he posted bail and was released.

According to The Advocate, Tripp was arrested three times in the fall of 2013 on counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, 306 counts of possession of child pornography, computer-aided solicitation of a minor and carnal knowledge of a juvenile. After each of the arrests, he was allowed to post bail and was released from jail. The total amount of bail posted from the cases was $126,000.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said that while out on bond, the sheriff’s deputy shared sexually oriented messages with a 13-year-old boy from Germantown, Tennessee, through social media. He had been discussing the possibility of traveling to Tennessee to visit the boy, though the trip never happened. Germantown authorities tipped off the sheriff’s office of the inappropriate communication which led to a search of all of Tripp’s electronic devices. The March 16 search turned up a nude photo of an underage girl and the messages with the boy. No nude photos of the boy were found on his devices. Court records show sheriff’s investigators continued their probe into Tripp’s activities following his initial arrest on Sept. 10, 2013, which is when he was fired from the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested him again on Oct. 8, 2013, and Nov. 7, 2013.

LeBlanc sentenced Tripp to 84 years in total for the 10 counts of attempted possession of child pornography. After suspensions and her order that multiple sentences be served at the same time, Tripp will actually spend only four years of that sentence in prison with credit for time served, officials say.

Tripp already has spent more than 2½ years behind bars, according to online jail records in Ascension.
