Kentucky Cop Resigns after Being Caught Trading Sex for Freedom

A cop from Kentucky is in hot water after trading sex for freedom. Hopkinsville Police Officer Daniel Gray resigned Monday from the police department after exchanging sex with a woman he was taking to jail. Gray is faces two counts of official misconduct.

According to Hopkinsville Police Chief Clayton Sumner, 34-year old Daniel Gray resigned Monday morning from the department and was arrested on two counts of official misconduct-1st degree. The investigation began several months ago.

KSP allege Gray drove the woman to a motel and had sex with her instead of arresting her.

The arrest warrant states that the former cop had sexual relations with the woman at the Fairview Inn. When he arrested her, he reportedly took her to the hotel and had intimate relations with her. After having sex with her, he still took the woman to jail according to the arrest warrant.

In his statement, Gray said he was just taking her to get some clothes. The warrant says he then transported her to jail.

The victim in the case told police in a statement that she and Gray had multiple sexual encounters which she understood were in exchange for him not arresting her.

On the weekend before the Total Solar Eclipse in August, Gray and an officer trainee found the woman at the American Inn, and Gray reportedly declined to serve active warrants to arrest her. Gray told the trainee that the reason he didn’t serve the warrant was because she had been providing him “good information.”

The chief is condemning Gray’s actions stating that the behavior is not tolerated by the HPD.

Gray also admitted having sexual contact with the woman twice. The incidents reportedly date back to November 25, 2016.

Gray was booked into Christian County Jail and then released on his own recognizance. He is due in court today, November 21st at 1:00 PM.

Gray had been with the Hopkinsville Police Department for nearly 10 years.
